==Who Must Seek Consent for Health Care?==

The Health Care (Consent) and Care Facility (Admission) Act specifically applies to health care providers and social workers. ([[{{PAGENAME}}#References|5]]) Health care providers covered by the Act include physicians, dentists, registered and licensed practical nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, optometrists, chiropractors and sixteen other groups of regulated health professionals. For a list see the Health Care Consent Regulation ([[{{PAGENAME}}#References|6]]) and BC Health Regulators.([[{{PAGENAME}}#References|7]]) The residential care aides (staff who provide most of the day to day care) are not currently covered by these acts. The expectation apparently is that their supervisors will seek consent for health care.
