Ronald J. Smith, QC is a senior subject editor for JP Boyd on Family Law, and is jointly responsible for the chapter on Children in Family Law Matters. Ron graduated with his law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1974 and has practised in Kelowna ever since. He is a family lawyer and also an experienced mediator, having conducted hundreds of mediations in most areas of law. He holds Chartered Mediator and Chartered Arbitrator designations from the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Canada, and has been involved as one of two senior mediators approving other candidates for the Chartered Mediator designation.
Ron is a founding board member and a past vice-chair of the BC Mediator Roster Society. Ron is also a past chair and executive board member of the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC (CLEBC). Some of Ron's leadership activities entail teaching and coaching mediation skills for CLEBC, the Justice Institute of British Columbia, the BC Arbitration and Mediation Institute and the National Judicial Institute. Ron is a past member of the Vancouver Foundation and volunteers with the Lawyers Assistance Program of BC. |
