Creditors who have security rights under the [http://canlii.ca/t/8495 ''Personal Property Security Act''] also have special rights under the [http://canlii.ca/t/7vcz ''Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act''] (see the sections on [[Bailiffs, Court Bailiffs and Sheriffs ]] and [[Assignments in Bankruptcy]]). In very general terms, creditors with properly registered security agreements can take themselves outside most of the effects of the ''Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act'', including:
* where there is an assignment in bankruptcy, and

* when the debtor has made a consumer proposal.
