===The ''Divorce Act''===
The ''[[Divorce Act]]'' was changed in July 2020 March 2021 to address some of the same goals as British Columbia's ''Family Law Act'' when it comes to resolving family law disputes. Section 7.3 puts a new duty on spouses:
<blockquote><tt>To the extent that it is appropriate to do so, the parties to a proceeding shall try to resolve the matters that may be the subject of an order under this Act through a family dispute resolution process.</tt></blockquote>
