===The ''Divorce Act''===
The ''[[Divorce Act]]'' was changed in March 2021 to address some of the same goals as British Columbia's ''[[Family Law Act]]'' when it comes to resolving family law disputes. Section 7.3 puts a new duty on spouses:
<blockquote><tt>To the extent that it is appropriate to do so, the parties to a proceeding shall try to resolve the matters that may be the subject of an order under this Act through a family dispute resolution process.</tt></blockquote>
