For longer excerpts, use a block format is required. Clicklaw Wikibooks has two methods of presenting for block format, formatting depending on the type of source.

Clicklaw Wiikibooks uses block quote blockquote tags (<code><{{tag|blockquote></blockquote></code>), }} multiple indentation levels, and a monospace font (<code><tt></tt></code>) for excerpts if the excerpt is taken from actsan act, regulationsregulation, contracts and contractual agreement or court orders order (as distinct from reasons for judgment). Doing so this distinguishes the codified language and hierarchical structure of these sources compared to the more narrative and natural language flow of other types of content.
A block formatted excerpt in a monospace font looks like this:

Longer excerpts direct quotations of reasons for judgment, textbooks, policy papers and most other texts text written in natural language (like court judgments) are simply placed into also block formatted, but maintain the default typeface. The block formatted indented paragraphs which are excerpt is enclosed in quotation marksquotations. If the excerpt is longer than one paragraph, each paragraph begins with an open quote, but only the final paragraph ends with a close quitequote.
A block formatted excerpt of a typical case looks like this:
