→Separation and divorce
#one of the spouses has treated the other with such mental or physical cruelty that the spouses can't continue to live together.
Almost all claims for divorce in Canada are based on separation. It doesn't imply that anyone did anything bad or was more responsible for the end of the relationship than the other. In fact, if it takes more than one year from the date of separation for the court to decide a claim for divorce based on adultery or cruelty, it will often grant the divorce on the basis of separation.
